What this place is

yaks.app hosts small apps that your own assistant — Claude, ChatGPT, or another that speaks the same connector — builds for you. You ask for something, it gets made, and it lives at an address of yours.

It's new, and it's small. Things will change, and some of them will break. We'd rather say so here than surprise you later.

Signing in

You sign in with your email address and a six-digit code we send there. That means whoever can read your email can get into your account, so look after it. Anything done from your account is treated as yours. If something looks wrong, write to hello@yaks.app and we'll help.

You need to be old enough to enter into a contract where you live, and at least 13.

Your apps and what's in them

The apps you make and everything you put in them are yours. We don't claim to own any of it. You give us permission to store it, copy it and show it to the people you've shared it with, because that is what hosting is.

You're responsible for what you and your guests put in an app, and for having the right to put it there. Please don't use this place for anything you'd need a compliance department for — medical records, card numbers, or anything else the law guards closely.

What isn't allowed

The short list lives on its own page: acceptable use. It's part of these terms.

Sharing

Every app has a setting for who may see it. Private means you and the people you've invited. Public means anyone with the link can read it. Open means anyone with the link can write in it too. Which one to pick is your call, and you can change it whenever you like — but a link you've already sent out is out in the world, so choose the open ones thoughtfully.

What it costs

There's a free plan and a paid one. What each costs and what each includes lives on the pricing page, which is the one to go by — we don't repeat a price here, so that the two can never disagree. The paid plan is sold and charged by Stripe, and we will never start charging a card you haven't given us.

Cancel whenever you like and the paid plan runs out the month you've paid for. There are some sensible limits — a single upload is 20 MB, for instance — and we may adjust them so that one person can't take the place down for everybody.

Selling through yaks.app

Your apps can take payments. If yours does, you are the merchant — not us. You connect a Stripe account of your own, the charge is made on that account, your name is what the customer sees on their statement, and the money settles into your balance on your own payout schedule. You pay Stripe's processing fee out of it, and we take a fee per sale — the amount is on the pricing page, and nowhere else, so the two can never disagree.

Payment processing services for sellers on yaks.app are provided by Stripe and are subject to the Stripe Connected Account Agreement, which includes the Stripe Terms of Service (collectively, the "Stripe Services Agreement"). By agreeing to these terms or continuing to sell on yaks.app, you agree to be bound by the Stripe Services Agreement, as the same might be modified by Stripe from time to time. As a condition of yaks.app enabling payment processing services through Stripe, you agree to provide yaks.app accurate and complete information about you and your business, and you authorize yaks.app to share it and transaction information related to your use of the payment processing services provided by Stripe.

Because you are the merchant, the rest is yours as well: describing what you sell accurately and delivering it, answering your customers, issuing refunds, responding to chargebacks, and whatever tax you owe. You do all of that in your own Stripe dashboard, which is where the money and the records live. We never see your bank details or your identity documents — Stripe collects those directly and keeps them. We keep the order: what was bought, what it cost, and the buyer's email address, in your own app's store.

What you may not sell. Everything on acceptable use applies here too, and so does Stripe's own list — prohibited and restricted businesses — which is the one your Stripe account is actually held to. In short, and not exhaustively: nothing illegal where you or your buyer are; adult services and pornography; gambling and games of chance played for money; weapons, explosives and dangerous materials; drugs, drug paraphernalia, marijuana and unapproved pharmaceuticals or supplements sold on health claims; counterfeits and anything else that infringes someone's copyright or trademark; debt collection, debt settlement, credit repair and payday-style lending; money transmission, cryptocurrency exchange and the buying or selling of financial instruments; multi-level marketing, pyramid schemes, get-rich-quick offers and any sale whose promises you cannot keep; and anything aimed at deceiving or exploiting the person paying for it.

That list exists because a shop on this platform sells under our name as well as yours. We may stop a space selling, and Stripe may close a connected account, and neither of us has to wait for the other. If we stop yours we will tell you why where we can.

Buying through yaks.app

If you buy something from an app here, your contract is with the seller and not with us. We host their shop and pass the payment along; they take your money, they owe you the thing, and a refund or a complaint goes to them. Their email address is on the receipt, and replying to it reaches them. If you cannot get anywhere, write to hello@yaks.app and we will do what we can — but we are not the seller and cannot make the sale right for them.

Stopping

You can stop whenever you want. Delete an app and its data goes with it; write to hello@yaks.app to close your account entirely and we'll remove what we hold, as described in the privacy policy.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks the acceptable use rules, or that we're required to act on by law. Where we can, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to get your things out.

No promises we can't keep

yaks.app is provided as it is. We don't promise it will always be up, always be fast, or never lose anything, and we don't promise that an app your assistant writes will do what you hoped. Please keep your own copy of anything you'd hate to lose.

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for lost data, lost profit, or anything we couldn't reasonably have seen coming, and our total liability is limited to what you've paid us in the past twelve months. None of this takes away rights your local law gives you and doesn't let us sign away.

Changes

When we change these terms we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change matters to you, we'll send an email as well. Carrying on using the site after a change means you're alright with it.

The law that applies

These terms are governed by the law of the State of Michigan in the United States, and any dispute belongs to the state or federal courts sitting in Michigan — unless the law where you live says otherwise, in which case it wins.
